As students and teachers head back to the classroom, our Ontario PC team is making record investments in publicly funded education while bringing a renewed focus on the basics, accountability and better results for students.
For the 2026-27 school year, we’re investing $30.6 billion in Core Education Funding and putting more resources directly into classrooms. Students are returning to updated curriculum, new learning resources, clearer and more consistent standards and new and expanded schools across the province.
We’re making record investments in education, and we expect those investments to deliver better results.
Getting Back to Basics
Our focus is clear: put student achievement first and make sure students develop the knowledge and practical skills they need to succeed.
This school year, we’re introducing clearer provincewide standards for assessment and grading, bringing back written final exams in most secondary school courses and setting clearer expectations around attendance and participation.
Students will also benefit from updated Kindergarten and history curriculum and a new Grade 10 financial literacy requirement to help young people develop practical skills they can use throughout their lives.
It’s all part of our back-to-basics approach focused on strengthening reading, writing and math while preparing students for rewarding, good-paying careers.
Putting More Resources Into Classrooms
We’re giving teachers more tools and resources to support students where it matters most: in the classroom.
For the first time, eligible elementary homeroom teachers have access to $750 each year to purchase classroom supplies, on top of the funding school boards already receive for classroom and school resources.
Teachers are also getting new curriculum-aligned digital resources to support more consistent learning across the province.
By putting resources directly into classrooms, we’re helping teachers focus on what matters most: helping students learn and succeed.
Building New and Expanded Schools
Our Ontario PC team is also making historic investments to build the schools growing communities need.
This fall alone, 35 new and expanded schools are opening across the province, creating more than 18,300 student spaces and 1,130 licensed child care spaces through an investment of more than $1 billion.
These projects are part of our nearly $30-billion, 10-year plan to build, expand and renew schools across Ontario.
Greater Accountability for Better Results
Parents deserve confidence that Ontario’s education system is focused on students and delivering results.
That’s why we’re strengthening accountability and consistency across school boards, providing parents with clearer information about their child’s education and ensuring every school board has a Student and Family Support Office where families can turn when concerns aren’t resolved at the school level.
We’re investing more than ever in Ontario’s schools and classrooms, but more spending alone isn’t enough. Those investments need to translate into stronger student achievement.
